Mariyam ShiunaEducational background:

Mariyam Shiuna holds an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (2011). She also received a First Class Honours degree in History from London Metropolitan University (2008); and a Postgraduate Certificate in Politics from Birkbeck College, University of London (2010). She is also a recipient of the Diane Sherry Prize for History from London Metropolitan University.

Research interests:

Research interests include democratisation, peace-building, politics, violence, conflict, history and international development with a focus on South Asia.

Affiliations and Professional experience:

Mariyam is currently a PhD Scholar at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. She has worked at three different universities in the UK, researching and managing various operational projects. Currently, she is the Executive Director at Transparency Maldives. She has also worked at Dhiraagu, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UNDP in the Maldives. Mariyam currently researches and writes on violence and politics in the Maldives.
