MaldivesResearch briefs government on
proposed environmental modelling project

Two Trustees of MaldivesResearch, Dr Hassan Ugail and Mr Fazeel Najeeb, met with the Maldivian High
Commissioner, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Asim
and the Director General at the Ministry of Environment,
Water and Energy, Mr Amjad Abdulla in London on
Wednesday, 28 May 2008. The
purpose of the meeting was to brief the government on
the environmental modelling project proposed by
MaldivesResearch. The meeting was held at the Maldivian
High Commission in London.
In his opening remarks, the High Commissioner thanked and
congratulated MaldivesResearch for coming up with the
initiative to establish a think tank to research into
public policy in the Maldives.
Dr Ugail made a brief presentation
about MaldivesResearch and the proposed project. The aim
of the project is to develop a novel scientific
computer-based platform to model the behaviour of sea
water in different scenarios such as extreme weather
conditions and tsunamis. During the course of the
project, at least three Maldivian scientists are to be
trained at PhD level. Both Dr Asim and Mr Abdulla
welcomed the project proposal and commented on certain
aspects of the project.
On behalf of MaldivesResearch, Mr Fazeel Najeeb thanked the
High Commissioner and the Director General for their
support to the project and to MaldivesResearch
generally.
Mr Adam Hassan, the Deputy High Commissioner, Mr
Ahmed Shiaan, the First Secretary and Ms Hawwa Shakeela,
Attache’, at the Maldivian High Commission also
participated in the meeting.
